Brian Lee Yung Rowe
Founder, Chief Pez Head
Brian founded Pez.AI as a vehicle to pursue artificial intelligence and machine learning R&D. His first foray in AI was shortly after university, where he wrote a genetic algorithm to parse content and sentences from HTML pages. Afterward, he implemented his own self organizing map (aka Kohonen network). He founded his first company, Cenozoa, to commercialize the technology as a fuzzy search/recommendation engine. After winding down Cenozoa, Brian joined the world of finance, where he developed tools for quantitative research at Bridgewater Associates, Merrill Lynch, and GAMA. Brian has also designed models to model bond prices, built an exchange for interest rate swaps, created models to classify clauses within contracts, forecast individual consumer spending. Brian has released numerous open source packages, including a library for optimizing portfolios using random matrix theory and shrinkage estimation. He is currently finishing his book, Modeling Data With Functional Programming In R, to be published in 2016 by Chapman & Hall/CRC Press. Brian is also an Adjunct Professor at the CUNY MS program for Data Analytics, where he teaches mathematics and machine learning.
Managing Director, Business Development
Saichi explored using genetic algorithms to solve several NP-complete problems during his time in university. After which, he entered the Philippine mobile industry during its infancy and was one of the pioneers of the Ateneo Java Wireless Competency Center which provided one of the first MMS-based services and Java games in the country. He worked for several mobile content providers and even co-founded QuickLynx which provided turn-key mobile messaging solutions. During his time with the Information Gateway group of companies, he was instrumental in launching numerous value added services (VAS) for several telcos in South East Asia. Saichi was pivotal in launching MyMusicStore which, at the time, was the largest online store for digital music in the Philippines. He established and co-headed the mobile advertising business unit for Rising Tide Mobile Entertainment while exploring other potential business ventures into social networks, mobile gaming, e-Commerce and digital payments. He was also an instructor at Ateneo de Manila’s John Gokongwei School of Management where he taught Computer in Business and Information Technology Application Programming. He has degrees in Management Engineering and Information Technology which allow him to understand both commercial and technical aspects of the fast changing digital landscape.
Managing Director, Engineering
With training in physics and computer engineering, Brian Baquiran has 19 years of experience as a software architect and engineer specializing in assembling and organizing agile software development teams for rapidly building large scale server-side applications and service deployment platforms. A veteran of the 90’s dot-com era, he got his start in the industry by developing embedded systems for the first generation of Internet appliances. Brian took part in shaping the early Philippine Internet industry by building Edsamail, one of the first internet service providers supported solely by online advertising. He then joined the top mobile content provider in the Philippines, Information Gateway, to build and lead its R&D team while architecting and deploying its mobile content and value-added service platforms for telcos across Southeast Asia.
